What do new students receive?
New sailing students receive two free courses: Basic Sail Trim and Navigation Rules. NauticEd also provides a free electronic logbook and boating resume. The free material is a sensible way to assess the teaching style before buying a larger course or bundle.
Courses, ranks and practical endorsements
Completing an online course records theory study, but NauticEd’s broader ranks also use logged experience. Practical competence can be trained and assessed through an affiliated instructor. That distinction matters: passing an online assessment is not the same as demonstrating that you can safely handle a boat in real conditions.

Appropriate experience and practical assessment may be needed for the rank, certification or licence pathway a sailor is pursuing.

Is NauticEd suitable for beginners?
Yes, provided online study is combined with safe practical experience. A beginner can start with the free material or Introduction to Sailing, then arrange on-water instruction rather than treating an online result as permission to skipper independently.
Can NauticEd guarantee that I can charter anywhere?
No training provider can guarantee universal acceptance. Charter companies, insurers, flag states and destination authorities can impose their own documentation and experience requirements. Confirm the exact requirements for the vessel and destination before paying for training or travel.
Is NauticEd the same as RYA or ASA?
No. NauticEd, RYA and American Sailing are separate systems with different curricula, certificates and partner networks. Choose according to where you intend to sail, the practical instruction available to you and what the relevant charter company or authority accepts.
